Not Guilty Verdict for 1992 Homicides of Tanna Togstad and Timothy Mumbrue
On August 11, 2022, Tony Haase was arrested by the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Department for the 1992 homicides of Tanna Togstad and Timothy Mumbrue. The State claimed it had it all—DNA, a bloody palm print, and a “confession.” Yet, exactly three years later on August 11, 2025, a jury found Tony Not Guilty.
Faced with an impossible set of circumstances, Tony endured an unjust traffic stop that led to illegally obtained DNA evidence and a coercive interrogation that sought to manipulate the truth. Yet, against all odds, he stood firm and resilient.
Birdsall Muller LLC celebrates this landmark moment in the pursuit of justice. This verdict not only gave Tony his life back but is also a resounding triumph against a system fraught with false narratives and manipulation.
This monumental victory highlights the extraordinary work of our dedicated team, led by Attorney John A. Birdsall and Attorney Nicole A. Muller—both of whom have spent years committed to uncovering the truth and presenting Tony’s innocence. With the invaluable expertise of Nathan Adams and Jerry Buting, Birdsall Muller LLC dismantled the false narratives that threatened to define Tony’s life.
Tony’s case demonstrates the power of perseverance and the importance of a strong defense team. It is a clarion call that we have to challenge the narratives enforced by the State and never rest in the pursuit of justice.
