Police chase ends in drunk driving charge for Wisconsin man
Laws exist for a variety of reasons. Some are put in place in efforts to protect citizens from the negative consequences that can stem from certain actions. Because car accidents caused by drunk driving can often have devastating outcomes, laws focus on preventing individuals from getting behind the wheel while impaired. Of course, people make mistakes, and drivers can still end up facing charges.
It was recently reported that one man in Wisconsin was taken into custody for OWI and other allegations. Apparently, an officer attempted to stop the man's vehicle for multiple traffic violations -- none of which were disclosed -- but the driver continued traveling. As a result, a police chase ensued, and speeds reached up to 100 mph at certain points.
Officers deployed spike strips in efforts to stop the vehicle, but the driver made a U-turn before reaching them. However, while trying to turn, the vehicle hit the pursuing officer's vehicle, and the fleeing driver came to a stop. The man was taken into custody and is currently facing charges of OWI, felony fleeing, operating a vehicle with a revoked license and other warrants. Information on why officers believed alcohol was a factor was not given in the report.
Now this man must contend with the drunk driving charges and other allegations that he faces. He may certainly feel overwhelmed by his ordeal and likely wants to handle it in the best manner possible. In order to find his most viable defense routes, he may wish to gain information relating to his case from local Wisconsin legal resources.
