What Alcohol Dehydrates You the Most?

The best way to avoid a conviction for operating while intoxicated (OWI) is to avoid being intoxicated in the first place. Dehydration is one of the key factors that speed up the intoxication process (and intensifies the next day’s hangover).

This begs the question: which types of alcohol are the most dehydrating? Perhaps you should avoid those the next time you hit the town.

Milwaukee's curfew for people under 17 --  enacted in 1943 but long-dormant -- is being actively enforced by Milwaukee police, opening up parents to the threat of fines. According to John A. Birdsall, the curfew's dated wording and ambiguous first amendment exemptions also expose the city and its police department to the threat of lawsuits.

A recent case by the Wisconsin Court of Appeals highlights an ongoing problem with the availability of after-market modifications of motor vehicles.  Go to any car parts store, and you will see a variety of cool things you can do to your car, including special lighting, unique license plates and other accoutrements made for the savvy hot rod owner.

One Year Can Make a World of Difference

Turning 18 is a rite of passage for teens. Legally recognized as adults, they have obligations such as registering for the selective service system and new rights such as the ability to legally purchase lottery tickets, cigarettes and other items of the adult persuasion.

Many Wisconsin teens fail to realize that their 17th birthday has the potential to be far more consequential than their 18th if accused of committing a criminal act.

Americans have the right to a speedy trial, but a shortage of public defenders is resulting in excessive jail stays for defendants who are unable to come up with the cash for bail.

As reported by the Wisconsin Rapids Tribune, “Nhja Lee, 45, of Green Bay, spent more than 100 days in jail on $25,000 bail in 2018 while the Wisconsin Public Defender’s Office tried to get a private attorney to represent him.”

You don’t have to look far to see marijuana-related news.

Governor Tony Evers recently granted pardons and clemency to 30 individuals who had been incarcerated as a result of marijuana and other drug crimes. Elsewhere at the Capitol, lawmakers have introduced multiple bills that would reduce the penalties associated with possession of cannabis.

While you continue looking forward to Christmas and New Year’s, dozens of others are faced with spending numerous holidays behind bars.

40 people were arrested throughout Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana after “a prolonged drug investigation spanning Sept. 29 to Dec. 14.” 183 pounds of fentanyl and 68,250 counterfeit fentanyl pills were seized by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

Your Choice Of Attorney Matters

If it were up to us, Wisconsin would rank first in things like quality of life, best place to raise a family, and best place to practice law. Unfortunately, a recent report from The Sentencing Project places Wisconsin at the top of a category that highlights racial disparities in our criminal justice system. “The report found that despite black people accounting for just 6% of Wisconsin’s population, they make up 42% of the state’s prison population and are incarcerated at 12 times the rate of white people.”
